Panther History

Panther Bowhunters was one of the founding E.F.A.A clubs created in the mid 1960's by a small group of target archers bored with all the rules and politics of the G.N.A.S. The club ground was located at Wigley Bush Lane near Brentwood and had a 14 target field course and in the beginning about eight to ten members.
The club became a 28 target course and membership steadily grew to just over a hundred, making it one of the biggest and most successful E.F.A.A clubs at the time. Around 1980-81 Panther suffered a setback when the landowner died and the club was forced to find new grounds. A new ground was found at Bakers Lane Galleywood which could accommodate a 28 target course. Membership rose again and at present is roughly 120 members.

Present day

Panther Bowhunters is affiliated to the NFAS and GNAS, the NFAS for hosting non EFAA unmarked 3D shoots and the GNAS for coaching, but we are primarily an EFAA club. We have two permanent 14 target marked distance EFAA courses, also there is enough room in the woods to stage the 28 target EFAA unmarked 3D round or the larger 40 target NFAS 3D shoots.
There is also a permanent practice area with eight target butts set out at ranges from 10 yards up to 45 yards. We also have a Clubhouse and Ladies and Gents flushing toilets.

On the shooting side of things we stage an EFAA record status classification on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Usually the grounds are open for members to shoot seven days a week. The only exceptions being Work Days and Coaching days. Work days are on the 2nd Sunday off the month and are from 10.30am to around 1pm. Once work is completed the woods are then open to shoot. Coaching is on Saturday mornings up to 12 0'clock, also horse riders use the woods up to lunch time, so the woods are closed until after 12 0'clock. Any other exceptions will be listed on the Shooting Calendar.

So if you think you might want to have a go at Field Archery why not pop down and see us ( best time would be Saturday or Sunday mornings ) or email us. We look forward to seeing you.
